Very recently, a business owner contacted me for SEO on his upcoming e-commerce site. Did you note it – it’s an upcoming site, which means that there is long way to go from design to development of the website. We had an informal talk, nothing much specific about SEO. I just listed different headings under off-page SEO. That’s it- we concluded our talk. “We will start the SEO soon” he said.

Last Saturday at around 9.00 PM I received a call from Aditya Patil, student evangelist for YourStory.in inviting me to a meet up at coffee day in basaveswar nagar. My Sunday was not yet planned; hence I agreed to attend the meeting.

If anyone is unaware of YourStory.in here is a brief on what they do. YourStory.in is a media company which covers news on business, particularly startups. They generally include intelligent and innovative startups in India. The site also has many articles and videos which are help full for an entrepreneur. In more simple words YourStory.in is TechCrunch for India.

Before I proceed to speak about meeting, I have to tell you how I got in touch with YourStory.in. That’s pretty simple in fact. You are supposed to fill an online form. This article YourStory Launches Student Campus Ambassadors Program has to guide you through the process.

After I resigned Real Bridge Consulting Pvt Ltd, I was ready to move back to my student life. I was waiting for my counseling and start of college. Besides this one more opportunity was waiting for me. It was not even two days after my resignation; few of the ex-employee of Real Bridge decided to quit the job to start their own. I was requested to have a friendly meet over a coffee. The talk was all about starting a new company and I was supposed to walk into the startup as web developer. I agreed to work for them, but as part time. Since it was a startup they said “That’s fine”.

The experience at Jars InfoTech was completely different. None of the things were organized. We were slowly setting up everything one by one. There was must to do but was waiting for the right time. I have to make few decisions on the technology such as programming language, e-mail system, hosting and domain and so on. That environment in the new office was full of fun. Since it is a start, I as a web developer had very less job. This gave me opportunities learn more, other than technology; most of the operations were transparent and discussed in groups.

Within few days of launching the company, we found a need for a company website. That was the first point of hurdle. We don’t have a designer yet in the company. Hiring a new one is not affordable and also it’s not easy to get one. After roaming around for a freelancer designer for a week or so, we gave up and decided to launch a company website with a free template. Availability of free template over internet is known to me much before and recommended it on the day one, but other people of the company said “let’s have our own design”. Finally one issue is solved.

After the introduction of object oriented approach in PHP, many keywords are being used in programming PHP applications. Few of them are straight forward as any other language and few others are just confusing. Today I am going to discuss such confusing elements of PHP OOP. Following is a quick list on what you find in this post.

  • $this
  • self::
  • parent::
  • static::

$this Operator in PHP

It is used to access the properties and methods of the same class inside a method.

Example:

class example1
{
public $name = "Sachin";
public function ShowName()
    {
      echo “ The Name is :  “.  $this->$name;
    }
}

The self:: operator

This is same as that of $this with a small difference. It is used to access propertis and methods in cases where both of them are declared with static keyword.

The social gaming site hi5 was acquired by the San Francisco-based Tagged on Wednesday. Tagged is the third-largest social networking site after Facebook and Twitter. The Wall Street Journal was first to report this acquisition. The terms of acquisition are not yet disclosed.

I have ordered a copy of Steve Jobs biography thru FlipKart.com which has to reach me by tomorrow.  This biography is written by Walter Isaacson after many interviews with jobs and his co-workers at Apple.

Anyways I would keep sharing what I have read here in my blog in next few days…
